Liliom Lewald
Liliom Lewald was born in Berlin in 1989, the son of a theatre director and an actress. However, he came to acting in a roundabout way, initially studying life in different countries, which benefited his language skills. He left school in year 11 without any qualifications. He attended a vocational college, which he completed with a vocational baccalaureate for social professions, followed by a bachelor's degree in International Business.
It was not until 2015 that Liliom Lewald began studying acting at the drama school ‘Der Keller’ in Cologne - he auditioned and was accepted - and graduated with a degree in acting in 2019. He performed at various theatres during his training. His engagements took him to the Ernst Deutsch Theatre in Hamburg and the Krefeld Mönchengladbach Theatre, among others. In Cologne, he played in various productions at the Theater der Keller and the COMEDIA Theatre. In addition to the Cologne Theatre Award for ‘Das Doppelte Lottchen’ and the Heidelberg Theatre Award for ‘Clockwork Orange’, he was named Cologne's best up-and-coming actor at the end of 2018.
From 2019 to 2021, Liliom Lewald was a permanent member of the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn and has since appeared as a guest in "Nichts geschenkt! A Brief History of Women's Rights in Switzerland‘ and in ’Play Falstaff".
This period also saw his first appearance in front of the camera. 2018 in "Tatort - Angriff auf Wache 08", directed by Thomas Stuber. This was followed by numerous appearances in very different productions, including the ZDFneo series "Dunkelstadt", directed by Asli Özge (2019), "Goldjungs", directed by Christoph Schnee for ARD Degeto/WDR (2020), "Mordach - Tod in den Bergen", directed by Roland Suso Richter (2021), "Unsere wunderbaren Jahre", season 2, directed by Mira Thiel (2022) and "Oderbruch", season 1, directed by Christan Alvart & Adolfo J. Kolmerer for ARD Degeto.
In 2023, Liliom Lewald was so busy in front of the camera that he barely had time to act in the theatre. He played the lead role in ‘Charlotte Link - Ohne Schuld’, again directed by Roland Suso Richter for ARD, ‘Die Chefin’, directed by Alexander Costea for ZDF and ‘Die Kaiserin’, season 2, directed by Barbara Ott & Maximilian Erlenwein for Netflix, in Prague. Liliom Lewald plays Jean, a Frenchman in Emperor Napoleon's entourage. He also starred in the feature film LA MORT VIENDRA, directed by Christoph Hochhäusler.
In 2024, Liliom Lewald returned to the theatre: ‘Play Falstaff’ directed by Katharina Rupp at the Theater Orchester Beil Solothurn. This was followed by ‘Polizeiruf Rostock - Sie haben Namen’, directed by Franziska Schlotterer, ‘Der Bremerhaven Krimi - Tödlicher Verrat’, directed by Nicolai Rohde.
Liliom Lewald recommended herself for the big screen in 2024 with the leading role in the feature film BABYSTAR. The Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg diploma film by director Joscha Bongard - produced by FABW graduates Lisa Purtscher and Lotta Schmelzer (LiseLotte Films) - has been invited to the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025 in the Discorery section. The satirical drama centres on 16-year-old Luca. Since birth, she has been the centre of attention both online and offline. Together with her parents Stella and Chris, she runs a family influencer business and lives a superficially flawless Insta-Gallery life. However, when her parents plan to have a new child, Luca plunges into a deep void and begins to realise how little is left of herself.
The TV film ‘Schwarzes Gold’, directed by Nina Wolfrum, has already been shot in 2025. It is scheduled for broadcast in autumn 2025. Filming has been completed for the first season of the series ‘Bulero’, directed by Jonathan van Tulleken for Amazon Prime.
Liliom Lewald is currently appearing in the Tiroler Volksschauspiel theatre in Telfs/Austria in the production ‘Romeo & Juliet’. The production is directed by Gregor Bloéb.
In his free time, Liliom Lewald is very active in sport. He is a good boxer, a very good Thai boxer and an excellent kickboxer - including winner of the NRW Cup in this discipline.
Liliom Lewald lives in Potsdam.
