Lucas Prisor

Lucas Prisor is one of the few German-speaking actors of his generation whose career naturally spans theatre, television, international cinema and various linguistic regions.

He did not take his first steps on stage at a drama school, but as a child through his mother, a theatre educator. Together they developed early theatre projects, including a production in Morocco. It was there that he had an experience which continues to shape him to this day: that acting can be far more than mere entertainment – it is a way of connecting people, cultures and the realities of life.

After completing his studies at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, he initially embarked on an intensive theatre career. His artistic influences include collaborations with Peter Stein, Robert Wilson, Claus Peymann and Olivier Py, as well as engagements at leading European theatres and opera houses, including the Opéra National de Paris. The precision and discipline he acquired during those years continue to shape his work to this day.

At the same time, he developed a career in film and television, which brought him into contact with some of Europe’s most prominent directors at an early stage. He has worked with François Ozon, Volker Schlöndorff, Paul Verhoeven and Julie Delpy, amongst others, and has been part of productions that have been screened at international festivals and won numerous awards.

Lucas Prisor most recently attracted international attention through his collaboration with director Mascha Schilinski on the feature film *In die Sonne schauen*. The film was invited to compete at the Cannes International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize, and went on to be honoured with ten German Film Awards (Lolas). Many observers already regard it as one of the outstanding German feature films of recent years.

His most recent international projects also include the prestigious international series “Rallye 82”, which underlines his growing presence in European and international co-productions.

On German television, Lucas Prisor has appeared in programmes including *Tatort*, *Charité*, *Eine gute Mutter*, *Neuland*, *Himmelsleiter*, *Kommissar Dupin*, *Dünentod* and *Bonusfamilie*. He has also frequently been cast in historical roles and as historical figures. For example, he played Judas in *I.N.R.I. – Warum musste Jesus sterben?* and the revolutionary Karl Artelt in the ARTE and NDR docudrama *1918 – Aufstand der Matrosen*.

The range of his characters extends from family men, entrepreneurs and investigators to historical figures. He has been equally convincing as religious, political and social role models, as well as modern characters who must hold their own in family, professional or existential conflicts. For him, the focus is always on the contradictions that make a person believable.

As a trilingual actor, Lucas Prisor works regularly in German, French and English. Over many years, his work has taken him to a variety of countries and cultural contexts – from Scandinavia through Eastern Europe to North and West Africa. Filming and theatre projects in countries such as Norway, Romania, Italy, Spain, Morocco and Senegal have had a lasting influence on his perspective on people, stories and ways of working. The ability to engage with a wide variety of perspectives, both linguistically and culturally, is now one of the defining features of his artistic work.

Directors value Lucas Prisor’s ability to embody characters with authority, intelligence and presence, whilst never losing sight of their vulnerability. At the same time, he is regarded as an extremely precise and detail-oriented actor who prepares intensively for his roles and immerses himself in the world of his characters with great care.

Outside of his work, he is interested in travel, music, languages and meeting people from a wide variety of backgrounds. He is particularly fascinated by the stories of those people who rarely take centre stage and whose life journeys often reveal more about a society than those of its prominent figures.

Lucas Prisor is currently back on stage in an international theatre production that brings together artists from 15 nations and is performed in English. It is a project that brings together many of the elements that have shaped his career from the very beginning: a love of cultural exchange, a curiosity about different perspectives, and the conviction that good stories can transcend borders.
